Arsenal have been in touch with the representatives of Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist claims there have been talks about the “possibility” of the Portuguese international moving to the Emirates this summer:
“For Cancelo, yes, they [Arsenal] are interested. They had some contact, and they have very good relationship with these agents. So there was a conversation over the possibility to sign Cancelo.”
Cancelo is currently on loan at Bayern Munich until the end of the month, but the Bundesliga champions are not expected to trigger their €70m (£60m) option to sign him on a permanent basis.
With the 29-year-old not believed to have a future at City either, a transfer in the coming weeks is thought to be very likely.
Cancelo’s stance on moving to Arsenal
It has been suggested in recent days that City would not block the defender’s move to the Gunners if the London club match the player’s asking price.
However, there are doubts over whether Cancelo would be interested in joining Mikel Arteta’s side. The right-back is said to be keen on leaving England, with Spain his most likely destination.
