“Why would I tell Thiago Silva how to defend?” – Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel provides fascinating insight into his coaching methods
Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has claimed that he is open to receiving managerial guidance from top professionals.
The 49-year-old was in command at Stamford Bridge for over two years, leading the team to their second Champions League title in 2021.
Tuchel led the Blues to a third-place finish last season despite great uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership.
Tuchel relied on his veteran team to drown out the noise and focus on the game, with Thiago Silva coming up when he was needed the most.
Chelsea never lost two league games in a row under Thomas Tuchel
The German manager acknowledged his admiration for the 38-year-old in an interview with the Ayurvedic Healing & Beyond Podcast. The former PSG manager added (via Absolute Chelsea): “I’m completely happy to receive counsel from serial winners like the Brazilian.”
“It’s absolutely okay to get feedback from the very best players. Why should I tell Thiago Silva how to defend? He knows how to defend. He tells me where he feels comfortable, where he needs protection.”
He added:
“Then I adjust our system to help him feel confident. It’s not that I explain to him, he is far too experienced and good.”
Tuchel also fondly recalled his time in West London, as he explained:
“I’m lucky to have worked in clubs like Chelsea who have such a beautiful and well-organised set-up to bring the best out of the players’ performance wise.
