The Dutchman usually plays as a winger and it seems as if the Red Devils won’t be looking to replace Cristiano Ronaldo directly.
While Gakpo has been prolific in front of goal this season, having scored 13 times in all competitions, many fans on Twitter would prefer that the club prefer a traditional number nine:
I think , if we buy gakpo he will play in left flank and rashford will continue in Center forward

Nah we need an out and out striker NOW

Why go for Gakpo? You’ve already got Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho and more that can play in that position. Sign a decent nr 9 or don’t sign an attacker.

We don’t need Another LW imo… Rashford, Sancho and Garnacho is enough, Gakpo is good but not necessary. People that say he can play CF are the same ppl that complain about us buying players and changing their positions. Gakpo has played LW pretty much he’s whole career

Gakpo isn’t a complete striker.. we need a player like Ivan Tony

United needs an out and out striker

Rather go for a striker in January. I think it’s better to let Garnacho play on the left more instead of signing another LW.

It’s a difficult situation. Most of the best strikers won’t be available in January so United would run the risk of overpaying for a player who wouldn’t necessarily be part of the team’s long term plans.
Gakpo, on the other hand, is someone who is already attracting the interest of big clubs. Arsenal and Liverpool are said to be keen on the Dutchman, so it would make sense to bring him to Old Trafford in January if a deal can be done.
