Updates On Azpilicueta, James, Silva And Four Other Players

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta was taken to hospital after suffering a head injury in the 1-0 defeat to Southampton at the weekend.

The Spaniard suffered no ill effects and he was sent home, but he will need to be assessed for concussion before being allowed to face Tottenham next Sunday.

Neither Reece James nor Thiago Silva were in the matchday squad for the loss to the Saints, with manager Graham Potter confirming after the game that both players were rested due to their recent workload.

N’Golo Kante is closing in on a return to first-team action, having been sidelined since August with a hamstring injury, but he has yet to take part in full training.

Christian Pulisic is not expected to be back until next month, due to a knee problem he sustained against Manchester City, while Edouard Mendy (broken finger) also remains out of contention.

Armando Broja won’t be back before the end of the season as he undergoes rehabilitation following an ACL injury.
