United Were The ‘Most Interested’ In Signing Ex Arsenal Star Before Making U Turn

Manchester United were the club “most interested” in signing Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny before they decided to keep David De Gea, according to Calciomercato.it.

The Red Devils have asked De Gea to take a pay cut in order to stay at Old Trafford but there were originally doubts over whether he would accept such an offer.

United were, therefore, looking at potential replacements and it appears Szczesny’s name came under consideration. The former Arsenal shot-stopper has been Juve’s number one for the last five to six years but he only has eighteen months left on his contract.

With the Serie A club also in a state of turmoil after being deducted fifteen points for false accounting, a number of players have been tipped to leave the Bianconeri.

Szczesny is apparently one of those who could look to depart Turin but he won’t be moving to Old Trafford if, as expected, De Gea puts pen to paper on a new deal.
