United Sent Scouts To Watch 15 Cap International Who Virgil Van Dijk Has Described As A “Great Player”

Manchester United sent scouts to keep an eye on Ajax defender Jurrien Timber last weekend, according to reports in the English media.

It is believed the Red Devils had representatives in the stands as Ajax lost 3-0 to PSV Eindhoven at the Phillips Stadion on Sunday.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag is known to be a big fan of his former player, with Timber having been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford last summer.

The 21-year-old ultimately decided to remain in the Netherlands where he has continued to excel. Back in September, his international captain, Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk, lavished praise on the defender (who has been capped 15 times by his country):

“I wasn’t nearly as far along as he is now [at the same age]. I have nothing but praise for him. He is a great player and a true professional. He has so much potential. Hopefully, he can develop further. Then it will be all right, I think.”

With United seeking a right-back and centre-back, Timber would be a perfect target, considering he is comfortable playing in both positions. While there have been no recent reports that the club are close to tabling a bid, the fact that they are sending scouts to watch him suggests they are very much still interested.
