United Now Competing With Three Premier League Clubs To Sign £50M Rated Bundesliga Ace

Manchester United will have to see off Aston Villa, Arsenal and Newcastle if they want to secure the services of Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, according to the Daily Mail.

The English tabloid reports that it is now a four-club transfer battle for the France international, who could be sold before the summer transfer window closes.

Leverkusen are now expected to accept bids in the region of £50m for Diaby, which is a lower price tag than previously stated. There was talk that the Bundesliga side would hold out for as much as €100m (£85m) at one point.

The 24-year-old had a good season in Germany, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists in 48 appearances so he would add firepower to Erik ten Hag’s attack if he did make the switch to Old Trafford.

A potential replacement for Sancho?

Multiple reports have suggested that the Red Devils would be open to selling Jadon Sancho this summer, just two years after paying Borussia Dortmund £73m for the player.

If the England international were to leave, you can see why Diaby is being looked at as a possible replacement, but there is no reason to believe that he is a priority target at the moment.

United will target a number nine first

Erik ten Hag has limited funds to play with if reports are to be believed, and if the club are to strengthen the forward line, signing another winger isn’t likely to be on the agenda. Recruiting a striker will surely take precedence.

Currently, Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund seems like the most likely player to be signed, although United have also been linked with the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani, Juventus’s Dusan Vlahovic and even Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. For the time being, at least, you wouldn’t expect a bid will be made for Diaby.
