United & 2 Other Clubs Remain ‘In Contact’ About Signing French Star Who Is Available For £26M

Manchester United remain interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, according to Sport1.

The German TV station claim that the Red Devils, Manchester City and Juventus have all stayed “in contact” with the France international’s representatives.

However, despite Pavard having been made available for transfer, Bayern are still “waiting” for the first offer to arrive for the player.

The 27-year-old has less than a year left on his contract, and he is keen on leaving the Allianz Arena before the end of the summer, but there are now major doubts over whether that will happen.

A possible replacement for Harry Maguire?

United are not expected to be in the market for the right-back, with Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka both set to remain at Old Trafford, but Pavard could be targeted for his ability to play in the centre of defence.

With Maguire having been stripped of the club’s captaincy and, with rumours that several Italian clubs are keen on securing his services, Pavard could be lined up to replace the England international if he leaves.

United may have to fend off competition from other Premier League rivals

Sport1 also mention Manchester City as a potential contender to sign Pavard, but their interest is believed to be dependent on Kyle Walker leaving the Etihad.

Other reports in Germany have suggested that Liverpool and Chelsea have been speaking to Pavard’s agents as well, so there does appear to be plenty of teams vying for the centre-back’s signature.

At the moment, though, Bayern have not received any formal bids. The Bundesliga champions are said to be demanding around €30m (£26m), which isn’t exactly a huge sum for a player of his ability. If United can offload Maguire, they may be tempted to make a move for Pavard before the transfer window closes next month.
