Tony Adams ex-Arsenal and England star excited to join the Strictly Come Dancing line-up in 2022 – career highlights, wife
Tony Adams, a former Arsenal captain, has joined Strictly Come Dancing.
Tony Adams, a former centre-back and manager, has revealed that he will appear on the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing later this year.
He’ll be joining Molly Rainford, Ellie Simmonds, and Ellie Taylor in donning the glitter and sequins later this September.
“The draw of the sequins and the call of the salsa has me switching my worn old football boots for a set of Strictly soft shoes,” Adams, 55, said in a statement. “I am absolutely happy to be giving it my best on this year’s 20th anniversary of Strictly Come Dancing.” I can’t wait to meet my partner – God help her – and get the party started.”
Adams was born in Romford in 1966 and joined Arsenal as a junior player in 1980.
Three years later, he was promoted to the senior team, where he remained for the next 19 years. Adams is widely regarded as one of the best Arsenal players of all time and was named one of the Football League’s 100 greatest players.
His Gunners debut came just four weeks after his 17th birthday, and he quickly established himself as a regular throughout the 1986-7 season.
Arsenal’s “famous back four” of Adams, Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn, and Steve Bould were known for their systematic usage of the offside trap.
At the age of 21, Adams was named Arsenal captain, a position he held until his departure from the game 14 years later.
Adams is Arsenal’s most successful captain, having won three FA Cups, two Football League Cups, a UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, and two FA Charity Shields.
Adams led his country and earned 66 international caps while playing over 600 games for Arsenal, including over 500 Premier League games.
Adams earned his England debut against Spain in 1987, but owing to a series of setbacks in the early 1990s, he was left out of the 1990 FIFA World Cup and missed Euro 2002 due to injury.
He would return and play until Rio Ferdinand emerged as a promising replacement for Adams in the early 2000s.
Adams resigned from international football after 66 appearances and becoming the first and only player in England history to play in three different decades.
Adams had a difficult managerial career, having worked with Wycombe Wanderers, Feyenoord, Porstmouth, Gabala, and Granada.
Due to poor performances, he was fired from both Portsmouth and Granada. He took over for Harry Redknapp at Pompey in February 2009, although they only managed 10 points in 16 games.
Similarly, Adams was appointed manager of Granada in April 2017, however the club was demoted from La Liga, ending their six-year stint in the top flight, with Adams losing all seven games in charge.

He was eventually fired.
During the mid-1980s, it became clear that Adams was dealing with alcoholism, and he was apparently frequently involved in nightclub brawls.
He slammed his automobile into a wall in 1990, and a breathalyser revealed that his alcohol level was more than four times the legal drink-drive limit.
He was later imprisoned for four months and became one of the most well-known recovering alcoholics in the United Kingdom.
Arsene Wenger’s arrival at the club in 1996, according to Adams, was a significant element of his recovery, as Wenger altered the club’s nutritional habits and players’ lifestyles, assisting the defender in overcoming his personal issues.
Following his confessions about his addictions, Wenger allegedly stood by Adams, and the French manager was rewarded with Adams captaining the team to two Premierships and two FA Cup Doubles in 1997-98 and 2001-02.
Adams is the only player in history to have led a championship squad in each of the last three decades.
Tony Adams is married to Poppy Teacher right now. The couple has been married since 2004. From 1992 until 1997, he was married to Jane Shea.
Tony Adams is scheduled to debut on September 7, 2022. Fans can see the former footballer in action on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
