Rumours of Paulo Dybala joining Athletico Madrid

Paulo Dybala did not expect to be out of work at this point in the season.

After seven years in Turin, the Argentine attacker departed the club in tears at the end of the season. After promising to become one of the world’s superstars, he had a more difficult conclusion to his tenure at Juventus as their fortunes also declined.

It was Inter that ended Juventus’ dominance in Serie A, and it was there he was expected to sign a free transfer this summer. However, the lack of departures at Inter, according to La Repubblica in a story reported by Mundo Deportivo, is holding up his contract.

Some of the funds that would have gone to Dybala’s contract are instead going to Joaquin Correa, Alexis Sanchez, and Edin Dzeko.

According to La Repubblica, Dybala is beginning to worry whether Inter will ever move enough pieces to bring him through the door. Atletico Madrid is one of the few sites Dybala considers to be a great alternative. Not only would he be able to go to Spain, but he sees it as the ideal location for him to gain a berth in Argentina’s World Cup team.

According to Mundo Deportivo, while it may be an appealing choice for Dybala, it may not make sense for Atleti.

Los Colchoneros are determined to sell this summer in order to balance their books, and with Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann already on their books, adding another high-earning striker in the later stages of their career may not be ideal.
