Chelsea and Manchester United remain in contact with superagent Jorge Mendes about signing Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
While Paris Saint-Germain still appear to be the frontrunners for the Portuguese international’s signature, Romano says the Blues and United remain in the frame:
“His agent Jorge Mendes is exploring possibilities with club. So at the moment there are still negotiations with the Atletico parties agent is trying to find the solution with PSG, the relationship is great, with Chelsea and Man United he always had conversations so he’s been now allowed to explore the market, but this is still not something advanced.”
Whether those “conversations” will lead to a formal bid from Chelsea when the transfer window opens next month, we shall have to wait and see.
Atletico are believed to have slapped a €100m (£86m) price tag on Felix, which would make him the second most expensive player in the Blues’ history if the London club agreed to pay that figure.
The valuation is likely to have put off a number of teams. Arsenal were also thought to be in contention for Felix’s signature but they are unlikely to shell out that much as they seek a replacement for the injured Gabriel Jesus.
In terms of Chelsea, their main issue has been scoring so whether Felix would be the right solution, it is debatable, considering his poor record in front of goal at Atletico.
