Jose Mourinho has been fired by Roma. Following Sunday’s 3-1 loss to AC Milan, the capital club is ninth in Serie A and has won none of its last three league games. Roma later stated that former player Daniele De Rossi will replace Mourinho in the Italian city and has signed a deal until the end of the season. Mourinho leaves Roma after leading the club to the 2022 UEFA Conference League title.

Jose Mourinho has been fired by Roma following a dismal season in Serie A, and former star Daniele De Rossi has been appointed as his replacement.

The Portuguese manager led the team to the UEFA Europa Conference League title in 2022, followed by a run to the UEFA Europa League final the following year, but the club has struggled this season and is now ninth in the league.

“We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” said Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin.

“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.
“We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”
Later on Tuesday, the club confirmed that De Rossi, who was mostly recently in charge of SPAL, will take charge until the end of the current campaign.
De Rossi spent 18 years playing with Roma, where he won two Coppa Italia championships and a Supercoppa.
He was also a member of Italy’s World Cup-winning side in 2006, as well as the coaching group that led the country to victory in the postponed 2020 Euros.
“I would like to thank the Friedkin family for entrusting me with the responsibility of Roma’s head coach role,” De Rossi said in a statement.
“From my side, I know no other way but dedication, daily sacrifices, and giving everything I have in order to face the challenges that await us from now until the end of the season. The excitement of being able to sit on our bench is indescribable. Everyone knows what Roma means to me.
“However, the work that awaits us all has already taken precedence. We have no time or choice but to be competitive, fight for our goals, and try to achieve them, which are the only priorities my staff and I have set for ourselves.”
The Giallorossi are winless in their previous three matches in all competitions and had suffered back-to-back defeats before to Mourinho’s departure, the most recent being a 3-1 setback to AC Milan in Serie A on Sunday.
Their recent inconsistency has left them ninth in the league, five points behind the Champions League qualifying places. In their past seven top-flight matches, they have only won twice.
Mourinho’s contract expired at the conclusion of the season, and rumours persisted until last month that he would sign a new term. He was set to return from a touchline ban for Saturday’s encounter against Verona after receiving a match suspension for a second red card in four days during the Coppa Italia derby defeat to Lazio.
He was hired Roma’s head coach in May 2021, barely than a month after being fired by Tottenham Hotspur. He led the team to sixth-place finishes in the previous two seasons, but important players such as Tammy Abraham and Chris Smalling have been out this season due to injuries.
The former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United coach argued before Sunday’s defeat at Milan that his good track record for winning titles meant supporters demanded too much from their team – equating himself to Harry Potter.
“The Roma fans are the most incredible I have ever seen, the coach is called Jose Harry Mourinho Potter, and he raises expectations,” Mourinho said.
“We are fighting a very difficult battle, but nobody will tell us we can’t fight.”
