Promising Chelsea Striker Could Join European Giants In The Summer

Chelsea are reportedly looking to offload striker David Datro Fofana in the summer transfer window on loan – despite acquiring his services just six months ago [via LondonWorld].

Galatasaray are thought to be interested in a move for the 20-year-old. While the Turkish giants have yet to submit an official offer, they will send a representative to meet with him and his agent this week.

As mentioned, Datro Fofana joined Chelsea back in January from Molde for a fee of £8 million – this fee could rise to £11 million with add-ons.

Who else, besides Galatasaray, are interested in a move for David Datro Fofana?

Aside from Galatasaray, Sporting Lisbon have also been linked with a move for Datro Fofana in the upcoming summer window. So far, no other clubs are believed to have registered an interest.

Leicester City had been previously linked with a move for the player, but he snubbed the Foxes in favour of a move to Stamford Bridge. Leicester now find themselves in the Championship, following their relegation at the end of the 2022/23 Premier League season – as such, their transfer priorities will have drastically changed since then.

Will Chelsea miss Datro Fofana if he is sold in the summer?

If Datro Fofana is sold to another club in the summer, it is hard to argue that Chelsea will miss him – he has made just four appearances for the Blues since he joined the club, scoring no goals and failing to register a single assist.

However, it will be yet another damning indictment of Chelsea’s profligacy regarding their transfer policy. If he leaves in the summer – it will beg the question – what was the point in signing him to begin with?

Chelsea have been guilty of making far too many unnecessary transfers since Todd Boehly took over the club. Acquisitions such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Mykhailo Mudryk and Joao Felix have all failed to live up to their extensive hype since joining the Blues.

Chelsea cannot afford to continue this trend – it may deter top-quality players from signing for the club in the long run. A loan move for the player would make much more sense – it will give him time to develop physically before he returns.
