Portugal was more interested than Uruguay.
We are not interested in Brazil. Portugal’s initial thinking when they entered the game tonight. The Europeans dominated the game for the first 70 minutes. They just desired it more, as they had advocated from the start. Not always in the right way, and not always with a strategy, but they knew they had to win this one.
Where were you, Uruguay? The Charruas provided 25 minutes of outstanding football. Pallestri was outstanding from the right. Coming and going, but not enough. By guessing, one cannot hope to overcome a squad like Portugal. Why did Alonso play it for the tie and the what-if moment? They certainly have what it takes to win.
Portugal is a fantastic squad of footballers who have no idea what they are doing. Individually, Bruno and Bernardo were fantastic tonight, but Portugal still has a lot of work to do as a team.
They are simply too skilled to notice their lack of guidance. They are avoiding Brazil for the time being, but they must focus on becoming a band of brothers.
