Police deployed tear gas on the teens, and a protester was injured at the Lekki toll gate

A viral video shows police firing tear gas at demonstrators gathering at the Lekki toll gate after the candlelight march of Mohbad.

Nigerian teenagers came in large numbers on the evening of September 21, 2023, to pay respect to the ex-Marlian Music signee who died at the age of 27.

However, once the candlelight march concluded at approximately 7:30 p.m. at Muri Okunola Park, as reported by prominent OAP, Dotun, youngsters relocated to the Lekki toll gate.

The Nigeria Police Force intervened around 10 p.m., as traffic congestion grew, begging with the youngsters to return home as a show of love to the late Mohbad.

Following their hard efforts, the police fired several teargas canisters at the demonstrators in order to disperse the crowd, injuring a number of young people.

Following the candlelight parade of Mohbad, police dispersed a crowd of Nigerian youths assembled at the Lekki toll gate.
The internet has subsequently been divided, with many arguing that the gathering was innocent and others supporting the police for dispersing it at the Lekki toll gate.

An X (formerly Twitter) user, Eniola Unlimited wrote, “Candle light procession in honour of Mohbad ended at Muri Okunola park and hours later, some converged at the Lekki toll gate?? People smoking and drinking as if they are celebrating a big victory!!! Shame. Shooting and killing by Nigerian Army during Endsars protest was condemned. Then what do we say about this?? This injury is a lot though 😭😭😭.”

But no, sporadic shooting of tear gas is very okay, because truly wetin we dey actually do for Lekki Toll Gate? Lol. Till now, I don’t believe that was from the government. Snake get hands inside.
