Murphy Thinks Chelsea Contract Rebel Could Be “Perfect for Liverpool”

Ex-Liverpool star Danny Murphy is backing the Reds to make an attempt to sign Chelsea’s Mason Mount if the midfielder can’t resolve his contract dispute with the Blues.

Trusted journalist David Ornstein has revealed that talks between the player and his club have reached an impasse, and Murphy believes his former club should take advantage of the situation:

“I’m just surprised it’s come to this point, he’s been linked with Liverpool – he’d be perfect for Liverpool – but if he doesn’t sign [a new contract] there would be plenty who’d take him.”

As Murphy says, Liverpool have been linked with Mount but, it should be pointed out that the 23-year-old has not given any indication that he is willing to leave Stamford Bridge.

Things could change in the next six to eight months, though. The England international will have just a year remaining on his current deal in June and Chelsea would be forced into considering a sale if no agreement is reached by then.

For the moment, it’s unlikely a switch to Anfield will take place but Mount’s contract negotiations are something that Reds supporters should pay close attention to.
