Morocco humbled Belgium by defeating them 0-2 in the Qatar World Cup 2020

It’s all over, and Morocco deserved it – it’s only their third World Cup victory, and it came against the world’s second best team.

Morocco shocked Belgium 2-0 in World Cup Group F on Sunday, with Abdelhamid Sabiri scoring from an audaciously tight angle and fellow substitute Zakaria Aboukhlal adding a second in stoppage time.

Sabiri’s free kick from near the corner flag beat Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois at the near post for the 73rd-minute winner, securing Morocco’s third World Cup victory.

Hakim Ziyech set up Aboukhlal’s goal on the counter-attack as Belgium pressed forward for an equalizer.

The North Africans also had the ball in the net with the last kick of the first half as Ziyech’s free kick eluded everyone in the penalty area and caught Courtois unsighted, but a VAR check found skipper Romain Saiss had been just offside.

Morocco moved on to four points from two games with Belgium, second in the world rankings, on three. Canada and Croatia were meeting later in Sunday’s other Group F match.
