Messi advised PSG to sign Lazio starlet Luka Romero
Luka Romero, 17, was the difference maker in Lazio’s triumph against Monza, demonstrating why Lionel Messi suggested the youth to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Biancocelesti bought the Argentine prospect from RCD Mallorca in a deal worth roughly €200,000 last summer, adding La Liga’s youngest ever debutant to their development system. At the pre-season training camp, Romero instantly impressed Maurizio Sarri and earned a berth in the first squad, making a couple of outings in the Italian capital.
In Lazio’s game against Monza yesterday, Romero was given his best chance yet under Sarri, going on at halftime in place of Matteo Cancellieri.
The 17-year-old looked incredibly exciting on the pitch and his smart off-the-ball movement led to his debut Biancocelesti goal in the 69th minute following a parried Pedro shot.

Lionel Scaloni called up the 17-year-old to Argentina’s first team training camp earlier this year, where he met and worked with Messi. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was so taken with the adolescent that he advised PSG recruit him in the summer.
Romero remained in the Italian capital, and Lazio are now negotiating a new long-term contract with him, with president Claudio Lotito recently stating that “he is and will be the future of Lazio.”
