Match Preview & Injury News

Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United are preparing to take on Sevilla in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, with a kick-off time of 8pm on Thursday evening. Can the Red Devils progress?

United will be without star attacking player Marcus Rashford, after the club confirmed he would miss ‘a few games’ on their official website. Rashford isn’t the only player who will be unavailable – Donny Van De Beek, Tom Heaton and Alejandro Garnacho have also been ruled out.

On top of this, Luke Shaw is also a doubt – he may miss out on the Sevilla game, but isn’t expected to be absent for a considerable period. It’s not all bad news – Casemiro is expected to be available, following the expiration of his red card suspension.

In the last round of the Europa League, United trounced Real Betis by an aggregate score of 5-1. Antony, Rashford and Wout Weghorst all registered their names on the scoresheet en route to the Red Devils’ dominant win.

Sevilla, on the other hand, found it a little tougher – they scraped past Fenerbahce by an aggregate of 2-1. After winning the first leg 2-0, they held on for dear life in the second leg. Sevilla lost the game 1-0, but progressed to the quarter-finals regardless.

The last time the two teams met, back in 2020, Sevilla were the team who emerged victorious. United took the lead early on thanks to a Bruno Fernandes penalty, but the tables were turned thanks to goals from Suso and Luuk De Jong. Can United gain a modicum of revenge this time?
