Manchester United remain interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goreztka

The Red Devils were first linked with the 28-year-old last month and it is believed that they have continued to monitor the player, with Bayern having now decided on an asking price.

Goretzka is set to be made available for between €40m (£34m) and €50m (£43m) this summer but fans on Twitter are split on whether United should make a move for the German international:

Signing a midfielder is not a priority for United

After signing Andre Onana from Inter Milan, it is believed that manager Erik ten Hag wants to focus on recruiting a new number nine.

Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund is seemingly the player they have identified, and if they do recruit a new striker, there are unlikely to be any funds left to go after a midfielder.

More additions may depend on player sales

Even though the Red Devils are working under a strict transfer budget, money could be raised by selling a number of players.

After being stripped of the captain’s armband, Harry Maguire could well leave Old Trafford, while the likes of Donny van de Beek, Fred and, potentially, Scott McTominay may also depart.

In addition to the funds it would bring in, it could also open up space in the squad to sign someone like Goretzka, but it may only happen later on in the summer.
