Manchester United make an initial £39 million proposal for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, who wants to reunite with Erik ten Hag despite rival Arsenal interest.

Manchester United have made an initial bid of £39 million for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, according to talkSPORT.

Arsenal are also interested in signing the versatile Argentine, but it is understood the 24-year-old wants to rejoin with his former manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
Arsenal has already made two bids for Martinez and is awaiting a reaction from the Dutch club after putting a second bid of £35 million on hold.

Since joining Ajax from Defensa y Justicia in 2019, the defender has made over 100 appearances for the Eredivise champions, demonstrating his flexibility by playing in four different positions.

Despite being only 5ft 9in tall, he played primarily as a centre-back last season, but he can also play left-back, right-back, and defensive midfielder.

Ten Hag worked with him throughout his time in the Netherlands and is one of several Ajax players linked with a move to Manchester.

The two have won back-to-back titles, and the Dutch manager is known to be a great fan.
Ten Hag emphasised his versatility when it was reported that left-back Nicolas Tagliafico was on the verge of leaving Ajax two years ago.

“In preparation, I will test Lisandro Martnez in that position,” the new United manager remarked. He has also played for us in midfield, but he is a defender.”

“I think Lisandro Martinez is an outstanding player; he’s starting material, which is why I talk to him a lot,” he continued.

“However, he faces stiff competition from Daley Blind, Tagliafico, and [Ryan] Gravenberch.” “I can only use 11 players.”
