Manchester United could end their interest in Monaco defender Axel Disasi, according to report

The English tabloid claim that, while manager Erik ten Hag “wants to sign” the France international, his asking price could prove to be too high.

Monaco are currently demanding around €40m (£34m) for Disasi and that could price out the Red Devils, who are working within a limited transfer budget.

Ten Hag was reportedly interested in the player as a possible fullback option, despite the 25-year-old ostensibly being a centre-half, and it appears that United will now stick with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot, with the former likely to see his contract extended by a further year.

Disasi could still end up in the Premier League

The Sun do say, however, that the Frenchman has other English clubs pursuing his signature, with Arsenal and Chelsea “ready” to make their own offers for the defender.

Out of the two, the Blues are probably the likeliest to make a bif after losing Wesley Fofana to a long-term knee injury.

United may only focus on defensive reinforcements if Maguire leaves

After being stripped of the captaincy, it was assumed that Harry Maguire would leave Old Trafford. The England international expressed his disappointment at the decision on social media but ten Hag has since insisted that the centre-back remains part of his plans:

“Harry’s very important for this squad, for this team. And, you know, in his role as centre-back, we have four centre-backs. I talked about consistency and we know we can’t do it with 11 players and so I’m happy we have four very good centre-backs. And we will need them, and he has to fight for his place, as he did last year. He has a high potential so I’m sure he will do it, he will fight for his place and then it’s up to him.”

Whether Maguire actually sticks around, it remains to be seen. If he does end up departing the club, United may decide to look again at signing Disasi.
