Manchester United are “one step away” from securing the signature of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, according to Sport Italia.
The Italian TV station claim that Erik ten Hag’s side have “presented” a €35m (£30m) bid for the Moroccan international, with the expectation that the offer will be accepted.
Amrabat is known to be on United’s shortlist of transfer targets but it was originally claimed an official approach would only be made if one or two players left Old Trafford first.
Scott McTominay, Fred and Donny van de Beek have all been tipped to leave Old Trafford but, so far, none of them have found new clubs, so it was felt that a deal for Amrabat may only happen later in the transfer window.
Whether that stance has changed, we shall have to wait and see, but Sport Italia report that the 26-year-old could seal his switch to Manchester very soon.
Ten Hag could be about to sign another former player
Amrabat has worked with Erik ten Hag before at FC Utrecht but the midfielder has certainly improved massively since he last played for the Dutchman in the Eredivisie.
At the World Cup last year, Amrabat played a pivotal role in helping Morocco defy expectations and reach the semi-finals.
Other teams have also been linked with Amrabat
After making a name for himself in Qatar, it was widely expected that the Morrocan would leave Fiorentina in January, with Barcelona among the favourites to snap him up. However, a move did not materialise and he remained in Italy for the remainder of the season.
Over recent weeks, both Liverpool and West Ham have also been credited with an interest in Amrabat but the links with United have always been the most concrete. From the sound of things, he could be on his way to the Red Devils.
