Manchester United 3-0 West Ham: Alejandro Garnacho scroed 2 and Hojlund scored 1 to celebrate his birthday

Rasmus Hojlund celebrated his 21st birthday by scoring in his fourth consecutive Premier League game as Manchester United defeated West Ham 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Alejandro Garnacho also scored twice, leaving the visitors to lament a series of squandered opportunities. United go up to sixth in the Premier League rankings, six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

Alejandro Garnacho scored twice in Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over West Ham at Old Trafford.

The Hammers enjoyed more possession in the opposing third than the hosts but could not convert it into points, whilst United were clinical.

Rasmus Hojlund scored midway through the first half after Casemiro outhustled James Ward-Prowse and sent the ball into his path. The Danish international twisted around Nayef Aguerd before firing low into the corner for his fourth Premier League goal in a row.

Emerson squandered a fantastic opportunity for the Hammers three minutes after the restart. It proved costly, as the hosts increased their advantage inside 60 seconds, with Garnacho cutting inside the Italian and firing a shot that deflected off Aguerd, giving Lukasz Fabianski no chance.

The Hammers’ greatest opportunity of coming back into the game was thwarted when Diogo Dalot made a wonderful sliding challenge to deny Jarrod Bowen, and they went further down shortly after.

Kalvin Phillips maintained his dismal start to his loan transfer, squandering the ball in midfield to fellow replacement Scott McTominay, who slipped a pass for Garnacho to score.

The one downside on an otherwise perfect day for Erik Ten Hag’s team was watching Lisandro Martinez, who had missed much of the season due to a foot ailment, walk out with a knee issue in the second half.
