Antony was withdrawn from the Brazil team on Monday after new charges of domestic abuse were leveled against the Manchester United player.
His ex-girlfriend charged him in June, and further allegations from her were made public on Monday.
The 23-year-old had been nominated to the team for CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying games against Bolivia and Peru, but he was removed from the roster after the Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) highlighted charges of sexual harassment “which need to be investigated.”
Antony’s ex-girlfriend originally accused him of domestic abuse in June, and further allegations from her were made public on Monday. United stated that they are aware of the CBF’s decision but declined to comment, while Antony denies any wrongdoing.

CBF issued this statement “Due to the facts that became public this Monday involving Manchester United player Antony, and which need to be investigated, and in order to safeguard the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian team and the CBF, the organisation informs that the athlete has been withdrawn from the Brazilian team.”
The charges are being investigated in Brazil, and a complaint has also been filed with Manchester police.
The Greater Manchester Police Department published a statement on Monday also issuing that: “Greater Manchester Police is aware of the allegations made and enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this report.”
In reaction to the charges, Antony issued a message on social media in which he stated the allegations were false.
“Out of respect for my fans, friends and family, I feel obligated to speak publicly about the false accusations I have been a victim of. From the beginning I have handled this issue seriously and with respect, providing the due clarifications to the police authority.

“The police inquest is under the cover of justice and therefore I cannot make its content public. However, I can say with confidence that the accusations are false and the evidence already produced and more to be produced show that I am innocent of the accusations made.”
According to Daniel Bialski, the ex-girlfriend’s lawyer, “the only thing she wants is that he [Antony] be punished for everything she went through.” I have a lot of faith in the Civil Police investigation, and I’m waiting for him to be tried for the crimes he did.”
Antony represented Brazil in the World Cup in Qatar, scoring two goals in 16 appearances. On Sunday, he played 84 minutes in Manchester United’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal.
As a substitute, Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus was called up to the national squad for the two planned games.
