Liverpool “will consider” to hijack Chelsea move for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo

The British radio network claim that the Reds’ “good relationship” with the Seagulls could help them beat Chelsea to the Ecuadorian international’s signature, having already done deals for James Milner and Alexis Mac Allister this summer.

However, Caicedo’s price tag is said to be £100m, after Brighton decided to up their valuation from £80m after seeing Arsenal pay £105m for Declan Rice. While fans on Twitter would like to see Caicedo make the move to Anfield, some are doubtful whether Liverpool can afford the player:

A lot depends on what happens to Henderson and Fabinho

It appears that a bid for Caicedo wasn’t considered until very recently when it became clear that clubs from Saudi Arabia were keen on signing two of Liverpool’s midfielders.

Captain Jordan Henderson has been tipped to join Al-Ettifaq, although there are claims that the move could break down over the Reds’ £20m asking price. Fabinho could, though, soon be the subject of a £40m offer from Al-Ittihad.

If the Merseyside club do receive £60m from selling the midfield duo, that could then be diverted towards making a sizeable offer for Caicedo.

Liverpool may find it difficult to persuade Caicedo

It is believed that Chelsea have already put in a lot of the groundwork on this deal, having agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old.

For that reason, there is no guarantee that the Reds can change Caicedo’s mind, having entered the battle for his signature so late on. We shall see how events unfold in the coming days.
