Liverpool are among the favourites to sign Villarreal winger Alex Baena, according to reports in the Spanish media.
The 21-year-old has been outstanding since establishing himself as a regular starter for the Yellow Submarines, racking up 21 goals and assists in 42 appearances over the past couple of years.
It is not surprising then that Baena has come to the attention of Premier League teams. The Reds and Manchester City are thought to be the two clubs who have taken the most interest in the player, but Arsenal and Chelsea are tracking him as well.
The Spanish Under 21 international plays his best football on the left flank, cutting in onto his stronger right foot, so he is unlikely to be a target for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the short term.
With Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and even Darwin Nunez all well capable of playing in Baena’s strongest position, there isn’t any real need for Liverpool to make a move for him at the moment. He is, however, someone to keep an eye on.
