Liverpool have offered £60m for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia according to reports coming from the Guardian.

Chelsea were said to be closing in on a deal to sign the Belgian international but it isn’t known whether this latest bid will change the situation.

Considering Lavia was reportedly available for £50m only a week or so ago, this latest proposal from the Reds has not gone down well with fans on X who feel the player is overpriced:

Liverpool have had a disastrous transfer window

Everything looked to be going smoothly after recruiting both Alexis Mac Allister and RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai before the end of June.

However, the subsequent departures of captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho has led to the Reds engaging panic mode. After refusing to pay Lavia’s original asking price, they made an approach for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

There is now a very real possibility that the club could miss out on both players, despite this latest offer for Lavia.

It is still unclear which club is Lavia’s preferred destination

There have been conflicting reports on Monday morning about whether Liverpool or Chelsea are the teenager’s number one choice.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has made some conflicting claims about Lavia in recent days but he is adamant that the Reds would be Lavia’s preferred club, but The Times reporter Tom Roddy has claimed Chelsea are in pole position. We will likely find out more in the coming hours.
