Liverpool are weighing up a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti

The likes of L’Equipe and Sky Sports have already linked the Reds with a bid for the Italian international and this latest story adds fuel to the fire that Jurgen Klopp’s side are genuinely interested in the player.

Fans on Twitter are, however, very much divided on whether signing Verratti is a good idea. Some feel his outstanding technical ability would make him an excellent addition to the squad, while others are concerned about his age and injury record:

Verratti is not a typical Liverpool target

If the Italian really is on the Reds’ radar, it would be very surprising. For starters, he is the wrong side of 30, which is an age that usually puts off the recruitment team.

Secondly, PSG are reportedly demanding as much as €80m (£69m) which is an eyewatering figure for a player whose performances are only likely to decline in the future.

There will be competition for the player’s signature

It is believed that Verratti has already turned down a lucrative move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, with the midfielder looking to stay in Europe.

Atletico Madrid and Chelsea are also said to keen on the Italian, although the player’s asking price will be a big obstacle for any team trying to snap him up this summer.
