Journalist Confirms That Chelsea Are “Thinking of” A Move For French Ace Who May Be The Next Eden Hazard

Chelsea are “exploring the signing” of Lyon attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The 19-year-old was first linked with a move to Stamford Bridge back in December when it was reported that the Blues were scouting him, along with Castello Lukeba.

It appears that Mauricio Pochettino’s side have maintained their interest in Cherki and they are now seriously considering a formal approach for the player.

The France Under international had a decent season for Lyon, scoring five goals and providing six assists in 39 appearances, but many believe he has the potential to go on to do greater things in the future

Hazard comparisons

In a post analysing Cherki’s game back in September, the Breaking The Lines website compared the teenager’s “strong frame and low centre of gravity” to Eden Hazard.

They go as far as to say that there are clear “similarities” between the Chelsea legend’s style of play and that of the Lyon player.

Chelsea are not the only team interested in Cherki

La Liga giants Real Madrid and Newcastle have been mentioned as potential suitors for the Frenchman over the past twelve months, although there haven’t been any concrete links recently.

If they do want to beat the competition to Cherki’s signature, the Blues will be hoping to use their good relationship with Lyon to make the deal happen.

They secured the transfer for Malo Gusto during the January transfer window but they allowed the wingback to remain in France on loan for the rest of the season. Agreeing to such an arrangement means that discussions with Lyon over a move for Cherki should be cordial.

No official contact has been made with the Ligue Onw side yet, and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will firm up their interest in the player over the coming weeks.
