Manchester United are leading the race to snap up Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, according to journalist Bruno Gonzalez Garcia.
The reporter claims that the Red Devils are the “closest to signing” the Argentinian international with Villa willing to sell the player for £40m:

United are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, with it now looking increasingly likely that David De Gea will leave on a free transfer when his contract expires next week.
Martinez has been linked with a move to Old Trafford on a number of occasions in recent months, although rival Premier League teams, including Chelsea and Tottenham, have also been mentioned as potential suitors.
United are currently favouring another goalkeeper
While it appears that United do have an interest in Martinez, there are now strong suggestions that manager Erik ten Hag has prioritised a different target to become his next number one.
Reports in the Italian media suggest that officials from the Manchester club have met with the agent of Inter Milan keeper Andre Onana.
Ten Hag knows the Cameroon international well, having worked with him for several years at Ajax, but his asking price could be a stumbling block.
Martinez would be cheaper than Onana
Inter are expected to demand around €50m (£43m) to €60m (£51m) for Onana, which could price United out of a move for the Inter star.
It does, therefore, make sense that the Red Devils are also weighing up a move for Martinez if, as Gonzalez Garcia claims, the World Cup winner is available for a lower amount. We shall have to wait and see how this transfer story develops in the coming days.
