‘It’s Great She’s Trying To Come Back,’ says Rafa of Serena.

Serena Williams gets praised by a Spaniard after she complemented him over the weekend.
WTA superstar Serena Williams expressed her admiration for Rafael Nadal ahead of Wimbledon.

Following his first-round victory over Francisco Cerundolo on Centre Court on Tuesday, the Spaniard returned serve.

“First and foremost, thank you for Serena’s remarks. [They] were read by me. It’s wonderful to hear such lovely words from one of the sport’s most prominent female competitors,” Nadal added. “And it’s wonderful that she’s attempting to return.

The only thing that stands out is the player’s enthusiasm for the game. It’s very tough to attempt to come back after all she’s accomplished and a lengthy period of being wounded.”

Nadal shown a similar level of determination in overcoming a long-term foot ailment as well as a stress fracture in his ribs earlier this year.

Williams is participating in singles for the first time since last year’s Wimbledon.

“Just being here shows how much she loves her job and this game,” Nadal remarked. “I believe that’s an excellent example.”

Although it is unsurprising that the all-time greats have a high degree of respect for one another, fans may be surprised to learn that Williams named her dog after Nadal, in the same manner that Sebastian Korda named his cat after the Spaniard.
