Injury update: Arsenal will be without 3 midfielders as they take on Aston Villa today
All summer long, every single Arsenal supporter and his dog has been calling for the club to add another midfielder, but none has shown up at the door. Now that the transfer window is almost up, we are not only still waiting but also learning that three of our four central midfielders won’t be available for tonight’s Premier League match against Aston Villa at home.
Mo Elneny had an injury against Fulham, but continued to play nevertheless, so it appears that he will be sidelined for a while.
Fair play to Mohamed Elneny. Injury thought to be ‘significant’ and I assume he probably knew that and played through it after it happened against Fulham. Completed 90mins to help the team. You would struggle to find a more committed player than him. Hats off. pic.twitter.com/qTJ8TM805X

Now that Thomas Partey won’t be able to play, Mikel Arteta has admitted in the pre-game news conference that Oleks Zinchenko, the next backup midfielder, also won’t be eligible for selection.
When questioned about the likelihood of Oleks or Thomas being found, Arteta responded, “I don’t think so. To determine the length, we still need to perform another scan, particularly on Thomas, but I don’t believe they will be made accessible. Though presumably not as terrible, it is a comparable spot to the one that prevented Partey from playing last season.
It will be fascinating to see how Arteta changes the lineup tonight, but the only possible fix is for Lokonga to play alongside Xhaka. However, at the moment, everyone is anxiously watching to see whether Arteta can sign another midfielder before the transfer window closes.
