Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes the Gunners should consider making a move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
The 26-year-old was a key player for Morocco at the World Cup as they managed to reach the semi-final stage of the competition and Parlour claims he would strengthen Mikel Arteta’s options in midfield:
“What I’ve seen of him at this tournament, he’s not phased by big games – which it is for your country. He is so comfortable. He’s always on the half turn and always looking to probe and try and get balls in behind the full-backs… I tell you he’s a player. If I was Arsenal, I’d be looking at him. Central midfield, he can get his foot in. Very good player.”
Amrabat hasn’t been linked with Arsenal but other Premier League teams, including Liverpool and Tottenham, have been mentioned as potential suitors ahead of the January transfer window.
Adding more depth in the middle of the park is something that the Gunners have been considering. Their interest in Palmeiras’ Danilo has been widely reported.
With that being the case, Parlour’s recommendation that the club should sign Amrabat is not a bad shout, although there are always doubts about signing a player simply off the back of a strong World Cup.
As Arteta and sporting director Edu have an excellent recent track record in the transfer market, you would back them to make the right decisions.
