I want to play for Spain, not Ghana – Nico Williams

Nico Williams, an athletic Bilbao forward, has claimed that he wants to play for Spain rather than his home Ghana.

The 20-year-old confirmed his choice of Spain over Ghana, saying he ‘wanted to be here.’
His brother, Inaki, had previously proclaimed openly that he wanted to play for the Black Stars and made his debut in a friendly against Brazil, which Ghana defeated 3-0.

Williams reiterated his decision to overlook Ghana for the 2010 World Cup champions after making his debut for Spain in their UEFA Nations League defeat to Switzerland.

“I have always been clear that I wanted to be here and I am very happy that Luis Enrique has given me this opportunity,” said Williams.

“I’m hoping to make the most of it.” As everyone knows, I want to be with the Spanish squad and improve, to prove to myself that I am worth being here.”

Williams will be looking to crack the starting lineup in a UEFA Nations League winner-take-all match against Portugal.
