The Gunners, along with Newcastle, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus, are expected to battle it out for the Spaniard’s signature this summer and the defender added fuel to the fire when speaking about Arteta and his style of play:
“I like Arteta a lot because I think he’s a great coach; I follow the European leagues and I think the work he’s doing with his club is fantastic.”
It has been reported that Fresneda has a release clause in his contract worth €30m (£26.5m), although it is believed that his club may be open to selling for below that figure.
Arsenal are expected to be in the market for a new right-back this summer. Takehiro Tomiyasu has had a lot of injury problems and Ben White has played most of the season out of position.
Having a young player like Fresneda would add greater depth to the squad, and take some of the workload off White. We shall see if the Gunners do make a formal approach in the coming weeks.
