Chelsea manager Graham Potter will ask the club to make a formal bid for AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, according to reports in England.

The Portuguese international was a target for the Blues last summer, but Milan were holding out for his €150m (£129m) release clause at the time.

With Leao’s contract running down, though, he could now be available for £85m and fans on Twitter believe Potter is making the right call by pressing for the player’s signature:

Leao’s current deal with the Serie A champions expires in 2024 and the feeling is that if he hasn’t signed a contract extension by March then he will be put up for sale next summer.

A move during the January transfer window is, therefore, unlikely at this stage and you have to wonder whether Potter will be still at the club to see Leao’s move come to fruition if results don’t improve before the end of the season.
