France forward Christopher Nkunku out of World Cup in latest blow for champions
France has been given another setback with the withdrawal of Christopher Nkunku from the World Cup in Qatar.
The RB Leipzig attacker hobbled out of training on Tuesday, and testing revealed that he will not compete in the competition.
The Leipzig forward has been in superb form so far this season, scoring 12 goals and adding two assists in just 15 Bundesliga games.
As a result, he is top of the scoring charts in the German top flight and also helped his side to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.
France are in Group D for the tournament in Qatar, alongside Australia, Denmark and Tunisia. They open their campaign against Australia on Tuesday.
The World Cup holders are already without Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante due to injuries, while Raphael Varane is attempting to recover from a problem in time to participate.
