Double boost for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta gives injury update on Mo Elneny’s and Bukayo Saka’s health

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Mohamed Elneny were back in action at London Colney after the Ukrainian put his calf problems behind him, and the Egyptian midfielder appeared to be over the hamstring ailment that had kept him out since August.

Meanwhile, despite limping off against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Bukayo Saka exhibited no ill effects, and Arteta was delighted to update the public on how the trio were doing.

“They’re at various levels,” he explained. “Mo had a long-term injury, but he is now fully healed and has been training with the team for a week or two.” Alex is new and has only had two training sessions.

Bukayo just missed one or two sessions and was fine today.

Mikel Arteta has offered a favourable report on Mo Elneny’s and Bukayo Saka’s health, maintaining that the latter would be eligible for selection on Thursday.

The Gunners are due to face FC Zurich tomorrow night, with us still to secure top position heading into the final group game in the Europa League, and a strong lineup might be picked.

While Arteta hinted that Oleksandr Zinchenko would not be ready to play on Thursday, he added that both Mo Elneny and Saka have been in full training ahead of the encounter, with no concerns over the England international, who was unable to complete 45 minutes before being substituted at the weekend.

“They are at different stages obviously. Mo had a long-term injury but he has recovered now in a really good way and has been training with the team for a week or two now. Alex is just very recent and he’s had two training sessions. Bukayo just missed one or two sessions and was fine today,” Arteta told Arsenal Media before confirming that the latter was ready to return.

Saka’s selection on Thursday isn’t a big thing for me, but with Chelsea coming up on Sunday, it’s a big boost to our prospects of winning the London derby and staying ahead of the Citizens.
