The Netherlands international has been identified as having the right profile to replace the injured Gabriel Jesus, who is set to be out of action for three months after knee surgery.
Depay could be available relatively cheaply with his contract set to expire in the summer so he may be seen as a decent short-term solution. However, fans on Twitter are very much split on whether it would be a good move:
Could be a smart signing on a year and a half contract

I think we should not just take anyone that is out of contract just because we need a striker… we need quality players that are ready to fight

Pls get him in right away

No Gakpo makes more sense

At this point I’d take anyone who can score goals. He’s probably the cheapest option without having to pay 100m for a “talent”

No, he couldn’t lead a conga line, never mind a front line for Arsenal

Great move. Much better than not bringing in anyone. Memphis is very experienced, a play maker and a goal threat.

He’s not good enough for Arsenal
— SonOfTheEarth (@MANamandze) December 10, 2022
At least he is better than Nketiah.
— Kucing Yang Tersakiti (@SabiqQueen) December 10, 2022
No please stay away from this guy. He can’t play simple. He wants to be a show man more than a team player

Other Premier League teams, including Depay’s former team Manchester United, have also been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old, so Arsenal will likely have some competition for the player’s signature.
Even so, the Dutchman may be tempted by a switch to the Emirates, where he could help spearhead their title challenge. We shall have to wait and see, though, whether Mikel Arteta’s side do make a formal bid for Depay in the coming weeks.
