Confirmed: Franck Kessie has been signed by Barcelona

He joined the Catalan club as a free agent and signed a contract with a €500 million release clause until 2026. Kessie is scheduled to earn €6.5 million, with the possibility of earning extra through incentives, according to Goal.

His signing has been all but completed for some time, with the only thing remaining was for the club to make a formal announcement.

It will be intriguing to see where manager Xavi Hernandez uses him. He is not regarded as Sergio Busquets’ successor or back-up.

The 25-year-old is at his best moving forward, as seen by his stint at AC Milan, when he played a key role in the Italian club winning Serie A for the first time in 11 years.

He scored 36 goals and had eight assists in five seasons with the Rossoneri. His accomplishments elevated him to the ranks of Europe’s greatest midfielders, and he was in high demand after it became clear that he would not be renewing his contract.

Barcelona swooped in and persuaded him to sign with them.

At the very least, he will give excellent depth, something Barcelona has been lacking. With little alternatives on the bench, the starting lineup wrote itself. Kessie’s presence not only brings depth, but also leadership experience.

Pedri, Gavi, and Nico Gonzalez are all young players, with Nico being the eldest at 20. Kessie has already won a league title and competed in the Champions League.

Given Barcelona’s terrible record over the previous two seasons, the latter is crucial. He is a player who will not be intimidated and might wind up playing a key part if Frenkie de Jong is released.
