Chelsea & United Both Urged To Make Bids For £60M Rated France International After Contract Talks Collapse

Intermediaries representing AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan have encouraged Chelsea and Manchester United to make offers for the France international, according to Corriere Della Sera (via Tribal Football).

The Rossoneri’s number one is reportedly unhappy about the recent sacking of director Paolo Maldini, who was conducting negotiations over a contract extension, and he is not prepared to re-enter talks now Maldini has left the club.

Maignan is believed to be willing to leave the San Siro and agents have been putting feelers out to determine who would be willing to pay the €70m (£60m) required to secure his signature.

Both Chelsea and United are looking for new number ones, although it must be said that the Blues may need to offload players to raise the funds required for Maignan.

Mendy’s departure could prompt a search for a replacement

Based on recent reports, it seems as if Edouard Mendy is set to make the switch to Saudi Arabia, with Al Ahli his likely destination. Personal terms have been agreed, along with a transfer fee, with only the paperwork needed to be signed off.

While the Blues still have Kepa Arrizabalaga, many do feel that the Spaniard doesn’t have what it takes to be the club’s first-choice keeper in the long term, so bringing in someone like Maignan could be on the cards.

Other keepers are being considered by Chelsea

In addition to Maignan, Inter Milan’s Andre Onana, Brentford’s David Raya, Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez, Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel and Valencia’s Giorgi Mamadashvilli have been linked with transfers to Stamford Bridge in recent months.

Some are expected to cost more than others, but Maignan could be the most expensive of the lot if Milan hold out for their current asking price. We shall have to wait and see how this transfer story develops.
