Manchester United saw series of their bid for the England and Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount turned down but they were just too determined to get their target and now there is an agreement between Manchester United and Chelsea for the star player.
Mason Mount to Manchester United
◉ Man Utd never left the race for Mount as he’s always been priority target.
◉ Face to face meeting was crucial to agree on £55m + £5m add ons fee.
◉ Bayern never in the race, it was only United for Mount. Now or in 2024.
The Spanish Under 21 international has been heavily linked with a switch to the Premier League, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle also said to be interested in the midfielder.
However, it looks as if the Blues will be the first club to make a formal approach to sign Veiga, with the Standard saying an offer is “expected” if Mount does finally complete a move to Old Trafford.
Manchester United had seemingly pulled out of the deal for the England international, having had a £55m bid rejected last week, but journalist Fabrizio Romano has since revealed that the Red Devils are now willing to have face-to-face talks in order to resolve the situation.
Chelsea are seemingly already getting contingency plans in place with it being claimed that they have already “sounded out” Veiga about a transfer to London.
The midfielder won’t cost a great deal
Veiga has a €40m (£34.5m) release clause in his contract so Chelsea won’t need to break the bank to secure the 21-year-old’s signature.
His club Celta have already made it clear, though, that they are not willing to negotiate on the fee, so the Blues will have to match the clause if they want the player.
Chelsea are eyeing moves for other midfielders as well
While a bid for Veiga is being planned, it looks like the club will first focus on trying to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton.
The Ecuadorian international has already agreed personal terms with the Blues and it has been reported that they will make formal contact with the Seagulls about the transfer very soon. However, the midfielder’s asking price is expected to be pretty hefty so it won’t be easy to get a deal over the line.
