Arsenal are keen on securing the services of AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer, according to Calciomercato.com.
The Italian website says the Gunners are looking to re-sign the Algerian international, who they sold for less than £1m five and a half years ago.
Bennacer is currently locked in talks over a new contract with Milan, and it has prompted speculation about a move back to the Premier League, with Chelsea and Liverpool having also been credited with an interest in the player.
The 25-year-old’s performances have been praised by a number of people in recent months, including Milan legends Arrigo Sacchi and Massimo Ambrosini, but he also has a fan in Arsenal legend Thierry Henry who said back in October:
“What I like about him is that he will look to pass the ball forward. The anticipation. He never gives up and he is trying all the time to stop the opposition so he can go forward with it.”
“He is a very good player. I am happy for him. When you leave a big club like Arsenal, then you find yourself in a situation ‘where am I going to go?’. He didn’t feel sorry for himself and he did find a way.”
Bennacer’s current deal with the Rossoneri expires in just over eighteen months’ time so it looks as if the Gunners may try their luck with an offer during the January transfer window.
