Arsenal are “preparing” a “bid” for Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio, according to Portuguese tabloid Record.
The Spanish international, who earns around £163,000 a week, is believed to be ready for a “change of scenery” and the move to the Emirates could be complete “as soon as the market reopens” on January 1st.
Asensio’s current deal at Real expires at the end of the season and he could sign a pre-contract agreement with another club if he so wishes, but it seems as if the Gunners want to sign him next month.
Other Premier League teams, including Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle, have been credited with an interest in the 26-year-old but Record claim Arsenal are now the frontrunners to secure his signature.
Manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the club will be “active” on the transfer front, although most reports have suggested that Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhaylo Mudryk is the number one target.
From the sound of things, though, it looks like a cut-price deal for Asensio is also in the works. We will keep you up to date with any further developments.
