While Tavares is keen to remain a part of the Arsenal setup, he is still unsure as to where his long-term future lies in football.
On Tavares’ future, his agent, Cesar Boaventura, said: “Nuno is still under contract at Arsenal. He wants to stay in the team but we’ll see what happens in the future.”
Should Nuno Tavares remain at Arsenal?
If Tavares is set to leave the Emirates Stadium in the summer, he will need to be transferred to another club for a fee – he is under contract at Arsenal until June 2025.
Tavares has been hailed as being ‘good enough to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona’ [via the Daily Mirror] in the past – but his current career trajectory, not to mention his recent performances, would suggest otherwise.
Nevertheless, Tavares has shown flashes of immense potential during his young career. He is a talented attacking wing-back, possessing excellent ball control and dribbling ability – he has work to do on the defensive side of things, however.
At Marseille, he was redeployed in more advanced positions – mainly at left midfield. Given his defensive deficiencies, it may be beneficial for the Gunners to re-train him as a left winger. Such an adjustment has given Arsenal players of the past, such as Bukayo Saka, a new lease of life within the squad.
