Arsenal Have Offered £100K A Week Contract To 23 Year Old, Nelson

Arsenal have offered Reiss Nelson a new deal which is worth £100,000 a week, according to The Mirror (via The Boot Room).

The 23-year-old’s contract at the Emirates expired at the end of last month, and he is now a free agent, but the Gunners are still hopeful of keeping the winger.

It is believed that the London club have proposed a four-year extension, which would keep Nelson with Arsenal until 2027, and it is now up to the player to decide whether he wants to sign on the dotted line.

Back in May, it was reported by reliable sources that Nelson had agreed a new contract but it seems those stories were wide of the mark.

Nelson does have suitors other than Arsenal

The former England Under 21 international has been linked with plenty of teams in recent months, including Brighton, West Ham, West Ham, as well as Serie A Giants AC Milan.

However, there has always been a feeling that Nelson would prefer to stay with the Gunners if a deal could be agreed.

Arteta is a fan of Nelson’s

Although the winger did not start many games last season, he did make some telling contributions, most notably his last-gasp winner against Bournemouth back in March.

After the match, manager Mikel Arteta was full of praise, saying that Nelson has begun to realise his true potential as a footballer:

“I always saw the potential. The talent and the desire for him to do it, but he’s at a different level right now. I think emotionally, the experiences that he had helped him.”

It seems clear that Arteta wants to continue working with Nelson, considering the size of the contract that has reportedly been put on the table. It is now a waiting game to find out whether he will put pen to paper.
