Arsenal ‘Have Already Tested The Ground’ To Sign £229K p/w Forward Who ‘Wants To Leave’ His Current Team

Arsenal are one of three Premier League teams pursuing the signature of Barcelona forward Ansu Fati, according to TMW.

The Italian website claims that the Gunners, Tottenham and Manchester United have “already tested the ground” with the player’s representatives to ascertain whether he is interested in moving to the Premier League.

Fati was a substitute in Barca’s opening game of the season against Getafe last weekend, and he is not deemed a key player by manager Xavi.

TMW report that the Spanish international now “wants to leave” the Camp Nou as he seeks to get more game time elsewhere.

At the moment, a move to England looks the most likely but it is not known which of the three Premier League clubs mentioned are the favourites for Fati’s services.

Fati would strengthen Mike Arteta’s options up front

It has been reported that Arsenal are on the lookout for a winger and the fact that the club do have a long-term interest in Fati has led many in the media to put two and two together.

The main issue with signing the 20-year-old would be cost. He currently earns £229,000 a week at Barcelona, which means agreeing personal terms wouldn’t be straightforward. In addition to that, the Gunners have spent £208m this summer and they may need to recoup funds before going after the forward.

Arsenal do have other priorities

The injury sustained by Jurrien Timber also complicates any move for Fati. Arteta is now weighing up whether to sign a replacement before the transfer window closes.

If the Gunners have to choose between signing a fullback or Fati, many feel that the former will be prioritised. As we saw with the David Raya loan deal, though, there are creative ways to get around budget constraints so you can’t rule out anything at this stage.
