Fulham defeated Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford, with Alex Iwobi scoring a stunning stoppage-time goal that ended Erik ten Hag’s side’s top-four ambitions.

United had been in excellent form in 2024, going unbeaten and won their last five games, with Rasmus Hojlund scoring seven goals in his last six.

However, the striker was held out through injury in midweek, and United were ineffective in his absence, with Omari Forson, who was given his first professional start after being preferred over £86 million signing Antony, failing to fill the vacuum.

Fulham squandered countless opportunities, and the only surprise was that it took them until the 65th minute to break the deadlock, with Calvin Bassey slamming the ball into the top of the goal after United failed to deal with a set piece.

The hosts finally responded and levelled when Harry Maguire tapped in from close range after Bernd Leno fumbled a shot in his direction.

That goal flipped the tide in United’s favour, but Fulham caught them off guard, with Iwobi scoring a 97th-minute counter-attack to leave Ten Hag’s side eight points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.
