Thousands of fans are scheduled to greet new African champions Banyana Banyana at OR Tambo Airport on Tuesday morning.

South Africa defeated Morocco 2-1 in the final of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday night, thanks to two quick-fire Hildah Magaia goals at Rabat’s Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

The outcome insured that Banyana Banyana won the competition’s final for the first time after failing in five prior efforts.

According to iDiskiTimes, the squad will land at 9.30 a.m. after flying from North Africa.

Sport24 cited coach Desiree Ellis as stating after the win:

“They demonstrated a will to win, authentic Kasi flavor, the South African attitude, and teamwork.”

Aside from the hundreds of spectators who will be present to rejoice with them, each member of the team will get thousands of rands as a prize for their historic feat.

They will each earn R400,000 from a R9.2 million bonus that the South African Football Association offered them last month.

Morocco’s captain Chebbak is awarded best player at WAFCON, while South Africa’s Dlamini is chosen best goalkeeper.

Ghizlane Chebbak of Morocco was named Player of the Tournament in the just concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, while South Africa’s Andile Dlamini was named best goalkeeper.

South Africa defeated the Atlas Lionesses to win their first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday in Morocco, according to Sports Brief.

Chebbak and Dlamini were awarded after the game for their outstanding performances in the competition.
